Analysis Of King s Work Green Grass, Running Water

King’s work Green Grass, Running Water presents women as beings who aren’t subservient to men, but as individuals who are unconcerned with the ideals and rules of men. The women in King’s novel all play roles as strong females who from time to time in the novel are under appreciated. King plays with a feminist standing of women using four different mythical stories all beginning with the actions of a woman. King places four different strong female characters in what seems to compare to well-known historical events in the bible. King also places strong female characters in ordinary situations living in modern times. He uses each of these characters to redefine the identity and authority of women in modern times. The first women in King’s novel is First Woman who represents eve and lives in a garden with a man named Ahdamn. First Women plays as the leader between the two of them. First Woman is the creator of the garden; she has power over Ahdamn and â€Å" Christian God†. The reader can tell that First Woman is in charge because when God enters the garden he must consult with First Woman not Ahdamn. First Woman then proceeds to leave the garden after eating the apple and sharing it with Ahdamn which shows how she rejects what God has to say. She also refuses the authority of the â€Å"live rangers† which shows her disregard against authority. First Woman represents the first powerful female character in King’s novel.
